NATIONAL LEGAL SCHOLARS LAW FIRM
The National Legal Scholars Law Firm (NLSLF) is a law firm composed of some of the nation's leading law professors and other scholars from many different areas of expertise.  We are not just teachers - we also have vast practical experience.  The firm provides its services solely for the benefit of plaintiffs' lawyers, particularly those who are facing sophisticated defense strategies that call for a high-powered, targeted, and efficient response.  We offer:
        1.  Exceptional scholarship.  Among the dozen scholars who are affiliated with the NLSLF (and another half dozen scholars who consult with us and our clients on an occasional basis) are 15 law professors, who teach at schools like Duke, Georgetown, George Washington, and Rutgers.  Click here for brief biographies.  We have written 20 of the leading treatises and hundreds of articles on more than 60 subjects, everything from torts, evidence, bankruptcy, jurisdiction, civil procedure, civil rights,  constitutional law, toxic tort, and products liability law.  Click here for areas of expertise.
In addition to writing the books and articles that judges regularly cite and defendants often rely upon, we are often invited to address judges at the National Judicial College, as well as to lecture groups like the ALI, the National Academy of Sciences, the RAND Institute, the ABA Board of Governors, the Federalist Society, the ACLU, and the American Constitution Society.
NLSLF-affiliated scholars were editors of their law reviews, Order of the Coif or Phi Beta Kappa, or received other honors at schools like Harvard, Yale, Columbia, NYU, the University of Chicago, Northwestern, and the University of Pennsylvania.  They clerked for six Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court and advised President Clinton's White House Counsel, Clinton's Secretary of the Treasury, the Iran-Contra prosecutor, and the International Court of Appeals at the Hague.
        2.  Substantial practical expertise.  We not only teach and write about the law, we also practice it.  We have argued and briefed hundreds of cases in federal and state courts, at both the appellate and trial levels and have worked behind the scenes on case strategy and development in many hundreds of other cases.   NLSLF scholars have played a central role in some of the most important cases decided by the U.S. Supreme Court including Daubert v. Merrell Dow, Norfolk & Western Ry. Co. v. Ayers, BMW v. Gore, Freightliner Corp. v. Myrick, City of Chicago v. Environmental Defense Fund and State Farm Mut. Auto. Ins. Co. v. Campbell.  NLSLF brings all this experience together in one firm.
        3.  Exceptional flexibility in when and how we work.  NLSLF is able to assist on a case as needed and for as long as needed.  We are flexible about the nature, scope, timing, and length of engagements, and can provide assistance at any stage of a case: Consult NLSLF early in a case (to assure the complaint is on sound legal footing and to make it less vulnerable to a motion to dismiss), during the case (to respond to complex legal arguments and expert witness attacks), or after a trial is over (to handle post-trial motions and appeals).  NLSLF can provide help in selecting expert witnesses, reviewing their reports, defending them at depositions and Daubert hearings, and using Daubert against defense experts.  NLSLF can advise on the theories and kinds of evidence needed to win and then preserve punitive damages awards in the teeth of recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions.
The NLSLF scholars are available only if, when, and for as long as needed.  Unlike hiring a new lawyer for the firm, NLSLF will not need to be supported after the work is finished.  Some lawyers have retained NLSLF for a few hours consultation before filing a complaint while others have hired us to write a complete appellate brief.  NLSLF billing arrangements are flexible to accommodate the needs of each case.
The scholarship, experience, knowledge, and reputation of NLSLF-affiliated scholars make NLSLF one of the most formidable collections of legal talent in the country.  Plaintiffs'  firms now have a pool of experienced legal scholars that can match up with the best defense firms can muster.  NLSLF is able and willing to help in the most challenging cases.
Please call if you have any questions or would like to consider our services.
